Condition Reports

We currently offer two main types of Condition Report for Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta (BV), BurberryCeline, Chanel, Chloé, Christian Louboutin, Coach, Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Hermès, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton (LV), Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Mulberry, Prada and Tod's items and also, for designer fine jewelry (jewellery) and watches (virtually all houses/makes covered) and National Football League (NFL) jerseys.

If your Condition Report is for an eBay/PayPal dispute/claim, or for any other company, or institution (such as a credit card, or insurance company, or Small Claims Court) - before ordering, please ask them (or your legal representative) what exactly is required and then request the service that most closely fits those requirements:

Condition Report - where a comprehensive document is provided, with all the manufacturing quirks/defects, natural flaws in the material(s), wear and damage the item may possess detailed.

Condition Report with Photos - where an extremely comprehensive document is provided, with all the manufacturing quirks/defects, natural flaws in the material(s), wear and damage the item may possess detailed, along with multiple photos of the item. This is the service normally most suited to Small Claims Court cases.

Both of these services can be performed either via inspection via photographs (which is what will happen in the vast majority of cases), or via a physical inspection (where the item is shipped to one of our DSAs).

eBay, PayPal and credit card companies normally only require inspection via photographs - as it is, usually, perfectly feasible to provide an accurate appraisal of condition in that way (providing the photos are sufficiently good, of course).

All Condition Reports are carried out by our Designer Specialist Authenticators/Appraisers who know their preferred brand inside-out. This is because they will be aware of any ‘quirks’ or ‘vintage-look’ effects, which may have been employed as an intentional part of the design, in the case of some styles and also, any tendency to deterioration certain materials used may be prone to.

Condition Reports

Extremely useful for eBay/PayPal disputes and claims (whether you are the buyer, or the seller), credit card chargebacks and for any other time when you may need to demonstrate the condition of an item, our Condition Reports are comprehensive documents (normally three, or four, pages long), written on notepaper (or virtual notepaper!) with the Fake Spotters letterhead.

In the interest of speed and economy, they can be forwarded to you, via email, in Adobe PDF format - ready for you to print, yourself, onto U.S. Letter size paper (with 94% magnification), or A4 paper. The report can then be faxed to eBay/PayPal, or your credit card company etc..

Alternatively, they can be printed out and sent to you via First Class Registered Post/Mail, if preferred (please note that this will, of course, incur extra time and a $15.00 USD / £9.00 GBP flat rate surcharge).

All Condition Reports are carried out by Designer Specialist Authenticators/Appraisers who know their preferred brand inside-out - we do not attempt to rely on a few, general, authenticators/appraisers attempting to keep pace with a multitude of brands and the individual background of the DSA is detailed, in full, in all Condition Reports.

Condition Reports list all the manufacturing quirks/defects, natural flaws in the material(s), wear and damage the item may possess.

If you also require an authentication and/or a fair market valuation of the item, please consider contracting a Written Appraisal, instead.

Please note that Condition Reports are only suitable for authentic items - so if, after a Condition Report is contracted, the item in question is found to be a counterfeit, a Statement of Non-Authenticity will be provided instead.

Prices are based upon one item per Condition Report (if you have several items to be reported on at once, please send details of each one in a separate email) and also, the timeframe within which you require the Condition Report.

Full email support is included in the price, for all Condition Reports contracted, throughout the duration of your dispute/claim/chargeback (if applicable).

Please see; ‘How to Contract a Condition Report’, near the bottom of this page, for more details on what to include and how to format your email(s).

NB: Condition Reports are not considered to have been contracted, until the correct payment has been received by us, in full and the countdown of the number of calendar days/hours only begins at the exact time of payment.

Please allow plenty of time, to ensure that you receive the report in time to check the details you provided are correct and to submit the report to eBay/PayPal/your credit card company.

We recommend that you allow, at least, an extra 48 hours for this.

We regret that we cannot be held responsible for Condition Reports which are delivered late, due to the incorrect timeframe being selected and paid for.

Condition Reports with Photos

This enhanced condition report service, which employs the use of the seller’s and/or the buyer’s photos, to help demonstrate the condition of the item, is ideal for use in Small Claims Court cases and also, for those who may wish to demonstrate that the item they possess is, without any doubt, the subject of our Condition Report.

Fake Spotters Condition Reports with Photos are extremely comprehensive documents (normally eight, or nine, pages long), written on notepaper (or virtual notepaper!) with the Fake Spotters letterhead.

In the interest of speed and economy, they can be forwarded to you, via email, in Adobe PDF format - ready for you to print, yourself, onto U.S. Letter size paper (with 94% magnification), or A4 paper.

Alternatively, they can be printed out and sent to you via First Class Registered Post/Mail, if preferred (please note that this will, of course, incur extra time and a $15.00 USD / £9.00 GBP flat rate surcharge).

All condition reports are carried out by Designer Specialist Authenticators/Appraisers who know their preferred brand inside-out - we do not attempt to rely on a few, general, authenticators/appraisers attempting to keep pace with a multitude of brands(!) and the individual background of the DSA is detailed, in full, in all Condition Reports with Photos.

Just like our regular Condition Reports, Condition Reports with Photos list all the manufacturing quirks/defects, natural flaws in the material(s), wear and damage the item may possess.

However, in addition, photographic evidence, complete with notations, is supplied; to visually back-up and demonstrate all the issues listed.

If you also require an authentication and/or a fair market valuation of the item, please consider contracting a Written Appraisal with Photos, instead.

Please note that Condition Reports are only suitable for authentic items - so if, after a Condition Report with Photos is contracted, the item in question is found to be a counterfeit, a Photo Statement of Non-Authenticity will be provided instead.

Prices are based upon one item per Condition Report (if you have several items to be reported on at once, please send details of each one in a separate email) and also, the timeframe within which you require the Condition Report with Photos.

Full email support is included in the price, for all Condition Reports with Photos contracted, throughout the duration of your dispute/claim/chargeback (if applicable).

Please see; ‘How to Contract a Condition Report’, near the bottom of this page, for more details on what to include and how to format your email(s).

NB: Condition Reports with Photos are not considered to have been contracted, until the correct payment has been received by us, in full and the countdown of the number of calendar days/hours only begins at the exact time of payment.

If you have any type of deadline (e.g. for court), please allow plenty of time to check the details you provided are correct and to have the Statement notarized (if applicable).

We recommend that you allow, at least, an extra 48 hours.

We regret that we cannot be held responsible for condition reports which are delivered late, due to the incorrect timeframe being selected and paid for.

Physical Inspections

This is what we call it when the designer item is shipped to us, or one of our DSAs, for an in-person inspection.

Physical Inspections are rarely necessary, in the case of most designer good condition reports; but may, very occasionally, be required.

If you feel your item requires a Physical Inspection, or if we (or eBay/PayPal etc.) inform you that it does, please add the following to the Condition Report fee, prior to shipping the item to us:

$78.00 USD / £50.00 GBP flat rate physical examination surcharge.

In addition, the following will be charged, prior to the item being returned to the client (assuming the client requires the item to be returned):

• All fully tracked and insured return shipping costs.*
• Any unexpected additional costs incurred - such as costs incurred by Fake Spotters, or our Authenticators, due to additional/sturdier packaging being deemed to be necessary, for safe return shipping (for example, if the item wasn’t adequately packaged by the client and/or if packaging was badly damaged in transit).

* The client is, of course, also responsible for all costs incurred to initially ship the item to Fake Spotters - we highly recommend using a service that offers online tracking and insurance.

Photos Required for Condition Reports

The specific photos we require vary somewhat, according to the type of item and the brand and style in question.

However, generally speaking, we would normally need a photo of the entire item from every major angle (e.g. back, front, sides, top and bottom, in the case of a bag) and then close-ups showing the material/leather and any and all labels, logos, heatstamps, engravings, hardware, serial/datecode numbers and holograms etc., plus any other distinguishing features.

In addition, in order to offer you an accurate condition report, we also require photos of any and all manufacturing quirks/flaws, stains, marks, scratches, dents, chips, pulls, tears, loose stitches and/or any other signs of wear and damage that the item in question may possess.

All photos should be in-focus and taken with the item/feature on a level plain and with the camera lens parallel to it (i.e. they should not be taken at oblique, or artistic, angles).

If you are very new to photography, you may find it helpful to consult this guide.

Please don’t worry, too much, though - if we need further photos we will get back to you.
